History

On the 11th August 1947 Governor General Quaid e Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah delivered his opening address to the State of Pakistan, which was established three days later on the 14th August. This went back to 1930 when Allama Iqbal had called for an autonomous state for Indian Muslims in the North West of India, which was  ruled at the time by Great Britain.  Jinnah went on to espouse the Two Nation Theory and in 1940 the Pakistan Resolution was adopted by the Muslim League. In early 1947 Britain decided to end its rule in India and by June, Nehru on behalf of India and Jinnah on behalf of Pakistan agreed to independence. There were two Muslim majority wings carved out of India with West Pakistan in the Northwest and what would in 1971 become Bangladesh in the East. Today Pakistan is sadly plunged into turmoil, with three million residents displaced in the North West of the county by the ongoing dispute between the government and the Taliban.
